Convention success a team effort

Local businesses, contractors and suppliers played an important part in the success of an international convention at Ivory’s Rock Conference Centre, 20 minutes south of Ipswich, last week (24 to 28 September).

“Local companies from Boonah to Brisbane helped make this convention a success,” said George Laver, General Manager of Ivory’s Rock Conference Centre.

“It is a huge undertaking to pull together a convention of this size, it takes a real team effort. We rely on our staff, suppliers and contractors to help us do this, and we want to thank them for their support,” Mr Laver said.

“We estimate that the five day convention will have generated more than $4M to the South East Queensland region, including many Ipswich businesses,” Mr Laver said.

Peace was the hot topic at the five day international conference attended by more than 3400 delegates. While more than 2200 delegates travelled from 59 countries near and far, the many local delegates simply had to drive up the road from Brisbane, Ipswich or Boonah to attend the event.

International guest speaker on peace, Prem Rawat, spoke over five days in the centre’s outdoor Amphitheatre, bringing a simple and profound message of peace for the individual.

“This life is special. You are here but for a very short period of time.”  “Find your contentment, find your peace, find your joy,” he said.

He also took time to talk about the environment, “People are waiting for the government to take care of the environment. Everyone has to take on as much responsibility in their own little arena to help protect this environment.”

“And the reason is because it is the only one we have got,” Prem Rawat said.

More than 2200 people stayed onsite in accommodations ranging from the “swagman” bring-your-own-tent style, or fully-equipped tents set up by the conference centre, while more than 100 motorhomes and caravans from budget to luxury models were a popular option.

Delegates staying offsite have been major users of local accommodations and restaurants and many attendees are expected to spend time enjoying the many scenic spots and attractions in Queensland after the convention.

Ivory’s Rock Conference Centre, established in 1992, is set on 772 hectares of bush and parkland at Peak Crossing, 20 minutes from Ipswich. The centre includes a 5,000-seat outdoor amphitheatre, indoor conference facilities and extensive catering and camping amenities.
