Sunday in the Country - a popular family day out !
More than 1000 people enjoyed clear warm winter weather at the Sunday in the Country community event at Ivory’s Rock Conference Centre
on 22nd June.
Local organisations including the Peak Crossing State School P&C, Flinders Peak Rural Fire Brigade and Harrisville Lions Club reported
very good fundraising results for their efforts.
Local entertainer Neil Duddy was very popular with his range of popular songs and was joined on stage during the opening ceremony by
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale and new Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor John Brent. Both mayors talked about the importance of community
collaboration and the great potential of the region.
Event organiser, Brian Murray, said “We are very happy with the day and want to thank all the organisations and individuals who
participated to make the event a success.”
“This event is a great opportunity to help support the local community organisations and provide a fun day out for everyone. We are
looking forward to making it an even bigger event next year.”
The crowds flocked to watch Michelle Dennis’s Firehorse Inspirations natural horsemanship display, while some of the fit and healthy
enjoyed a bushwalk to the base of Ivory’s Rock.
The children enjoyed the Geckoes wildlife shows, and the opportunity to get up close and learn about the orphaned native animals being
cared for by volunteers from the Australian Rescue & Rehabilitation of Wildlife organisation.
A new addition to the activities, an art display of excellent quality by members of the Queensland Wildlife Artists, local Ipswich
artist Alan Purnell and others, provided an opportunity for a quiet interlude from the busier outdoor activities.
The date for next year’s event will be decided in the next few months and organisations interested in participating are invited to put
forward ideas for making the event even better.
